I’ve been doing a little research this morning and have found there is a real lack of resources & inspiration on stylish gay weddings in Canada! Especially in Calgary… I want to do something about that!
It seems like when you google “gay weddings”, you get a selection of rainbow coloured wedding cakes, cheesy same-sex cake toppers, colourful gerbera daisies, rainbow-dyed roses… I’ll stop there, but you get the picture – That look is simply not a fit for everyone… Where is the stylish & classy gay wedding inspiration?
Gay weddings deserve the exact same treatment as a straight wedding, and the same amount of wedding blog love & attention as any other wedding. A gay wedding should have the same decor inspiration as a straight wedding, because at least at JYW, we plan weddings inspired by LOVE, no matter who you’re marrying, and gay weddings are not decorated differently than straight weddings!
So, I say – Yay for same sex marriages and yay for beautiful & stylish gay weddings! Here is a little inspiration for those wanting something beautiful, classic, and timeless.

This is from a beautiful engagement session that I highly recommend you check out. It has a very editorial style and chic feel to it. Plus, the outfits are divine!
I love this look of adding a non-traditional centrepiece of candles & greenery. Its a romantic look that really warms up the look of contemporary grey linens & black chiavari chairs.
I absolutely love the white dress/black dress combo on this lovely couple. What a fun way to play on tradition, while being true to your own style! Stunning.
Mmm… This Provence inspired white wedding is perfect for any Restoration Hardware addict. Its just classy, and a look that will be loved for years down the road.

I also wanted to point out that picking a bridal party as a same sex couple might be difficult if you feel like you have to stick to the “bridesmaids on the left, groomsmen on the right” idea. You don’t. In fact, mixed-gender bridal parties are more practical anyways!
No matter who you’re marrying – Be yourself and have fun with your wedding planning. I say that to all of my couples. Nobody fits into a box, nor should you feel like you have to follow what everyone else is doing. It’s likely more fun when you’re not…
